Coons can be tough
Occasionally, I would shoot a coon with an arrow that didn't pass all the way thru. Not good for the arrow because a coon can flat mess one up quick. Actually a coon is a bad little dude period and can put the hurt on a dog. I began using a field point with a decent sized washer behind it. when it hits the chest area, hits with authority and knocks them down hard. plus cheaper than broadheads and getting arrows stuck in trees up high. The last one I got was in the bird feeder, he never knew what hit him and he was a big boar coon. yeah, knocked him clean out instantly. He shouldn't have growled at me.

Do you eat them? I’ve never shot one personally, but I have heard that they taste good, especially barbecued.

When I was a kid I was a Navy brat and my step dad was stationed in Charleston S.C. He decided to learn to hunt Coons. We would go out at night using our 22's and lights. As you may know, down south they use hounds and many times I would here about a hound dog getting turn up and hurt pretty bad by angry Coons. It's a big part of their life in many areas. Eating Racoon is part of life for many. It has been a long long time since I had any, the meat was pretty good.
