I'm nearly always using my phone. Try turning your phone on its side; (tip; don't tilt your head with it).

So, what do you guys like to see as % FOC (or do you prefer inches FOC?)
Most of the figures I've seen bandied about the interweb thingy seem to preach around 19% FOC...does that sound about right?

I copied a photo of the FOC chart to post here, but saw the text prohibiting reproduction without permission and so did not. You will have to click on the link, guys. (at least until we get permission)

My new heavy hunters are 16.6%, I'm happy anywhere between 15-20% myself.

Ashby said that heavy deep penetration and bone breaking becomes noticeably superior once FOC hits above 19%. Thats where the 19% came from all over the net. Personally, I like to start there (19%) on the low side, and would probably top out at 25%.....at least thats for deer and deer sized animals. Elk, I'd want to be closer to the 25% mark at a minimum. Most my arrows presently run from 22%-24%. FOC.

I considered shortening one to see if I could get more up front but they shoot so well that I didn't. The spine seems to be just right now as it is.

Sorry for the confusion Tony, I was just addressing kirks post up there. Not questioning your set up at all...you know what a good handling arrow is. ;)

Oh no confusion; I knew you were answering the 19% question and I certainly put high stock in Ashby's reports. I was just telling about the situation with my newest arrows. They are 500 spine and 30", I have not dealt with these heavy hunters before and seem to have pretty much reached my limit that the spine can handle. Either I shoot a lighter poundage bow or shorten to strengthen spine to add more up front. But as well as they are shooting I'm not changing anything right now. As long as I'm 15-20% I'm happy, Im convinced Ashby is correct though, and I do like to hunt with as high of foc as I can get by with.
