Nice knife Graps. A good knife can hold many good hunting memories.
Re: Don't kill the memories .
My mother gave me some of my dad's things .
This Western Cutlery knife was in the stuff .
Being a knife maker I was just about to clean it up and refinish the leather handle , make a new sheath and having it look like new .
Then it hit me , all those marks and discoloration are memories .
How many deer have been field dressed , rabbits , chickens beheaded and I know of one moose .
I think it looks just fine like it is .

My Dad had a knife very similar to those, but I think the blade was a little smaller. I wish that I had been able to get that knife. I have no idea what ever happened to it.

IVe restored many of the old western leather stacks but I agree with you.
The Joy is in the doing.

You know , I wouldn't have a problem with restoring a knife like that . If it didn't know the original owner , there's no sentimental value .Shootemstraight wrote:Found this one under a very old house I was working on. Whish it could talk. Kinfolks 368
But still , would be interesting if it could share the stories with you .

A little back story on my Western, Dale...since you shared yours...
When I was a snot-nosed kid I wanted to be a 'hunter'. I don't know why, because my dad was not a hunter that I recall, but I wanted to be. Maybe more of an Indian brave, I dunno? Anyway, that's how I ended up with my 'Baby Ben' Ben Pearson bow. And once I had that, well..you can't be a hunter without a huntin' knife, right?
I bugged my dad for seemed like forever for a real huntin' knife. Oh, I had my jackknife and my Cub Scout knife, but it wasn't the same...
One Christmas morning I woke to find the Western under the tree...
And when Dad finally did take me rabbit and pheasant hunting as a teen, you can bet it was strapped to my hip!
First blood was a rabbit, in fact.
Might have only cost five bucks back in the day, but to me it's worth a million bucks!
