Just good info for a young, handsome lad such as myself preping for killing a giant WI black bear with an arrow. The article reminded me of an American Bison hunt I outfitted for a local archer who is a compound whitetail hunter and the importance of heavy arrows. I dont know if I told that tale here before?

Very good!
Be more concerned with your character than your reputation, because your character is what you really are, while your reputation is merely what others think you are !

I am a strong believer in the heavy arrow, I have proved them myself. Just bought me a dozen heavy hunter arrows at the Tradfest. I will tip them with brass inserts and heavy heads. Also bought some 175 and 200 grain practice points.

Well I got my heavy hunters fletched and flung a few. With the brass insert and points they weigh between 625-650 grains. I shot two of them along with my lighter carbon express arrows and to my surprise both weights were hitting the same. I kept backing up until I was at 30 yards, the heavy arrows hit the same and actually touched the lighter arrow. With all the benefits and no difference in flight why wouldn't anyone want to try them. Give it a test drive yourself and see if you are not surprised also. I was shooting a 40lb bow.

I think I may do just that.

I typically run 11 grains/lb or just over with most of my setups. I have the opportunity to shoot longer distances at my house and I have been surprised how little difference there is in trajectory unless you really have the front end loaded up and that is only after 30-35 yards. Penetration is rarely a problem on critters.

Right now, im shooting 15.57 gr per pound using 685 gr arrow. Out to 30 yards, there is little difference in them, and a lighter arrow in point of impact. I never have penatration issues. Momentum is far more important than kenetic. Whats it take to stop a semi truck going 60 mph, and whats it take to stop a train going 50 mph? I think common sense says it all.... without actually doing the heavy arrow with extreme FOC, a person will always think they will nose dive or rainbow arch to the target. If you have tested it, you know the truth is actually quite different. Those who have not done it for themselves will always be doubters. Id rather always get plenty of penatration, as compared to the lack of penetration once in a blue moon.
The element of surprise can never be replaced by persistence.
