No, this got nuttin' ta do wif archery...but how many of you fellers are smokepole (black powder) fans out there? Show of hands?
Me!
I have a bunch of them, mostly revolvers, but also a very nice Lyman Trade Rifle in .50 cal that I've hunted with several times (never harvested). I've noticed from some of the posts here a few of you are rock lock (flinter) fans. Old-time muzzle loaders are to gun hunting what tradbows are to archery hunting, if you follow...maybe that's why you find the same type of personalities partaking in both?

Man I dont own any now, but I sure have shot and been around them a bunch. I'll probably get stoned for saying so, but I was only ever around 1 flintlock. Everything I've done has been percussion. I use to own a .50 CVA Mountain rifle, and matching CVA .50 Mountain Pistol. Also, the old Army revolver, Thompson Center Seneca rifle, and Thompson Center Hawkins. Hundred and hundreds of rounds through those guns. Every dang weekend we were busting targets with other family and friends who liked the smell of the cloud.

I'll raise my hand! Longbows and flintlocks are all I use to put meat in the freezer. Everything else has no appeal to me anymore. I bought a new left-handed deer rifle about 5 years ago and I bet I haven't shot 2 boxes of shells through it. If I can get it done with the methods I love to use then what's the point?

I just got new flintlock turkey gun a month ago and I'm already planning on my friend making me a 54 caliber rifle before next deer season. Yes, I know, it's a sickness.

I had fun in PA with the flintlock... one company up in Central pa came out with a "removable breech plug flinter" that was an old time looking gun, just easy to clean.

I had a T/C Hawken, without the fancy patch box and furniture... but shot ok...got into trad bows so heavy I got out of it and sold it, then later, bought a Firestorm by T/C that was a POS...still is.

Darren got me talking to this John Pruitt that made his gun... John is interesting guy... going to call back and perhaps have him scratch build me a flinter... 'Why?" No flippin idea... can use the inline here in TN and I have one... but it shoots like an 06 with a scope... just burns smelly powder...or as one Primos team member calls it " a smokin gun"..

Friend just fired up a new website, blackpowdergang.com all about 1700-1900 period weapons but must be period discussion... not "white devil powder" stuff... independent of another site with a gang ending...

He's into flinters and BP ctg guns... he's big into it all...

I still have stuff in my box for the .50 Flinter...so will go that route... .54 is tempting, but nothing the 50 can't do here in america.. the Swiss powder is supposed to be higher velocity stuff, use less, but costs more...

Me; I have the Lyman Trade Rifle in .50 and a matching Trade Pistol in .50 as well...plus about 20 cap & ball revolvers of various flavors from .31 up to the big .44 Dragoons..and am admin on 3 black powder revolver forums, one of which is mine. No rock locks at this point in time but doesn't mean I don't lust after one! I guess I like "old stuff"; old bows, old guns, old cars, old motorcycles and even old guitars (I have a '65 Stratocaster). I consider my "abbreviated front-stuffers" smokepoles as well...so, yeah. I'm a smokepole fan.
I could post some pix, but won't bother unless somebody really wants to see 'em...
