Favorite blade profiles? Need ideas.
Hey guys I am looking for input on your favorite blade profiles for a hunting knife. I am planning on getting a blade blank and making my own handle.
Right now I am leaning toward a scandiavian style blade but open to ideas.

That will look truly awesome!
(BTW, making your own knives... super cool! I love knives but definitely don't have the time to make my own!)

I like small drop-point blades. That wood is awesome!

Im a drop point man too. I'll post another pic of my knife graps made me if I can scrounge it up. He made the blade and all from scratch. Its the best blade I've ever owned. It's hardened to 60 Rockwell.
The element of surprise can never be replaced by persistence.

I use to make some knives but unfortunately I never took pictures of any. I gave them all away but one and lost it! I like small blades like neck knives, just don't like carrying anything large or heavy.

60 Rockwell is dang hard. I saw that little knife Graps made for you. Looks like a nice hunting blade. I like the scales too! I'm not up for trying to forge a knife yet or even heating it up and cooling it down. Maybe I'll take a go at that some other time.
How did you make your knives cd?

Clay, have you watched any of the TV series on making knives? (It's on the Outdoor Channel or Sportsman's channel...can't remember which?) Never seen the show but have watched commercials. A lot of guys seem to prefer using old files for the blades. The steel is already tempered.Longtrad wrote:60 Rockwell is dang hard. I saw that little knife Graps made for you. Never seen those programs. I have watched a handful of YouTube videos though. I have heard old files make great blades. I wonder how hard one would be to shape without softening the steel.

If I'm not mistaken, graps made that blade for Jason from an old file and did not have to re-harden it...but I could be wrong?
