I don't get it...
One of the 'hot button' items on some of the other trad forums lately has been the discussion of 'woodies'...traditional wood arrows (there have been plenty of great discussions here as well) and the pros and cons thereof. You guys know me as a 'woody guy' by preference, even though I own and shoot both carbon and aluminum as well. Now, the advantages of either carbon or aluminum over wood are no secret, and they can be more durable and have better penetration qualities as well as being far more versatile with weighted inserts, movable and lighted nocks, screw-on points and the like. But what gets me is there seems to be a whole passel of so-called die hard "trad experts" who thumb their noses at woodies, yet put down the folks that choose to shoot modern composite limb recurves with aluminum or magnesium risers, warf bows and the like lumping them into a bastardized 'non-trad' group.
I don't get it.
How can you bash on modern technology traditional-style bows, yet embrace modern technology arrows and bash those who choose "old-fashioned, outdated woodies" in the same breath?
Me...I say shoot what works for ya. And live and let live. No apologies required. Fortunately, the folks around here tend to embrace this policy rather than the latter and that's one of the reasons I appreciate this forum and all you guys.
Thanks for being who you are, guys!

Re: I don't get it...
I'll try to explain it to you Kirk. If I'm doing it then it's okay, but if I'm not then it's wrong, especially if your doing it! Does that clear it up any?
Bottom line to me is; I do what I want and hope others do as well. If I change and buy me a compound I probably won't ask for anyone's approval. Being a Pastor most of my adult life I have become immune to folks talking about me. Water on a ducks back!

I don't mind what other folks do, Tony. It's the hypocrisy that is so mind-boggling! And yep, I think you nailed it...it's "Do as I say, not as I do!" And if you change and buy a "training wheel bow" I would still expect to see you here every day. (Did I ever mention I still have two of them things in the closet somewhere? Shhhhh!)

On the other hand maybe we should hire us some trad police around here , they can be a barrel of fun!
Re: I don't get it...
I still have one training wheel bow that I look at every once in a while, then that dang Shadow gave me another one last fall (that one is for the kids). I have SEVERAL recurves and 1 longbow, and a ton of woodies, several aluminum and a few carbon arrows. Not only am I into bow hunting, but I love gun hunting too when it comes to putting meat in the freezer. All of that coming to light would probably get me kicked off of some other forums. The thing is, that this isn't only a situation in trad archery, its all over life. Many people just love to find a reason to complain about what another is doing, when they are sure nuff doing the same thing or a close variation of it. I am and have been for a number of years, been working on my immunity to finger pointing. Every once in a while something will rattle me, but as Tony said: "water on a ducks back" is the attitude I want to achieve. It is disheartening to see a division in the ranks though, I guess with some people we're supposed to be clones of one another. Where's the fun in that?

Its all just human pride....not the good kind either, such as doing a good job on something. Instead, its the bad kind,... the kind that elevates self up on a pedestal, and places one's self as a cut above the rest, (in this case above others in trad archery and intelligence about it...) you know, the kind that God says He absolutely hates?
The element of surprise can never be replaced by persistence.
Re: I don't get it...
wowow that bow and arrow combo is politically incorrect!
I am offended!

A fellow preacher once warned me about getting to high up in ourselves, I have never forgotten his quote...Shadowhntr wrote:Its all just human pride....not the good kind either, such as doing a good job on something. Re: I don't get it...
I like woods, making and shooting them. I also have a few hundred aluminums and carbons. Here in AZ. shooting woods and missing a target usually means a busted arrow. But, I usually have both in my quiver. Maybe I am to big and ugly for the "Trad police" to say anything to me. Only ribbing I get is for shooting long shots or emptying my quiver on them. I do not pay attention to what guys on Internet say. A lot of them never leave the backyard.
