Trapping and Fur Trade
I'll be the first to admit, I know next to nothing about this topic, but still find it fascinating. Anyone who can share photos and stories (hint, hint, Jason ) there are those of us who would love to hear and see them!

To keep from giving the wrong idea about how animals react in traps, please visit these YouTube vids of actual bobcats ive caught in live action.

A typical coyote reaction when caught.

A daytime, windy day cat. This big tom was nervous because I was on one side of him and my son on the other filming. The cat felt more threatned because he couldn't watch both of us at the same time. A semi rare hind foot catch. Sorry for the wind noise.

They seemed rather calm, overall. Maybe just worn down, or is that normal?

My trap line!
I've always wanted to follow in the footsteps of McKenzie, Sublette, Tom Oar, Marty Meierotto and their ilk; watching Shadowhntr do some posts here really fueled the fire and I'm proud to say I now run my own trap line. It was rather unexpected, you see. It was one of those things that you just sort of 'happen' into.
I've been quite successful in my first week; filling eight of my traps in just two days. Of course, I purchased the 'Cadillac' of traps, not some bargain store junk. Top drawer, my friends. Plus, I feel blessed to not have to live in Alaska bush country or the Yak Valley, or reside above the frost line in the Rocky Mountains. I can't say I've really made any money, as of yet...they say it's a learning experience, and so I am learning...

...of course it's not helping that right now the mouse pelt market is very depressed, either.
