Are you able to taper them for nocks and points them without special tooling? My $5.00 'pencil sharpener' works great on POC or Tamerack (Larch).dahyer wrote:bear paw spruce shafts are my favorite.
The Woodchuck and other taper tools are all in the 100+ price range, and since I build arrows by the half-dozen, not interested in laying out that much cash. I don't buy pre-tapered because you are choosing your length before tuning in those cases.

I use regular taper tool. Not a smooth as cedar for sure but it gets te job done.

Why can't tapered shafts be tuned to length? Just cut from the point end, or is there something I am missing?

Taper for nock is one angle and tip is another. Then if you shorten shaft you need to retaper before putting point back on

Oh just the point and and nick taper. I was thinking end tapered shafts that go from 11/32 to 5/16, my bad.

I have no idea about that stuff lol. All i know is about plain ole wood shafts lol
