My buddy text me at 454 and said he thought he hit a doe. We all know what that means. A few minutes pass and I just sit there haven't seen anything. Hes seen 5 or 6 deer at this point. I heard movement in front of me and can make out deer legs through the cedar tree. As fast as it was moving I assumed it was a buck which does me no good as I had already used my 1 buck tag. It was a Doe! And at about 15 yards to my left. A quick mouth grunt and I got her to stop. She was quartering away pretty hard but felt I could hit the spot and released. I watched my arrow bury in the crease right behind her front leg. She took off and ran about 50 yards. I heard her crash and got down to look for my arrow. I haven't had so much luck finding arrows this year. Need to borrow a metal detector. I did have a great blood trail though. A sharp 2 blade at that angle is like throwing a axe at them. Not sure if I got a full pass thru but there was a exit hole on the front edge of the opposite shoulder. I had a great blood trail which started about 15 yards from where she was standing. I gutted her quickly and went over to help my buddy look for his. He had hair and 2 spots with little blood. We did not recover her and plan to look in the morning. From there we carried all out gear and jackets to the truck and got the game cart about 3/4 mile each way. Didn't get a chance for any pictures other than the 1 where I found her. 1 tag left, back at it again in the morning. Old front is here and it went from 70 to 35 degrees. Need to grab another arrow, cut, taper and install another Magnus.

beautiful sunrise and congrats again. even a pretty cheap metal detector can find those broadheads, because they would be pretty shallow no matter what. out in the woods there is a lot less trash and so less crap to deal with. I have recovered quite a few broadheads and field points with a detector. even aluminum arrows scream with a detector. I went to a friends house one time and found a bunch of lost arrows buried just under the surface in his back yard. I have one broadhead that looks awful but still sharpens and flies great, it had been underground for a while and rusted pretty badly but I cleaned it up. it is now a back up arrow. You sure put the Big Hurt on the deer this year and with different bows to boot. And these guys are afraid to give up their compounds and crossbows. Trad shooting and Trad hunting is so much more simple and plain ole fun to do. Man I would have a pile of poppers cooking, heck I would eat them for breakfast anytime LOL.

This year has been special. I believe the biggest change was adjusting or moving the majority of our deer stands. We have 17 stands, my son and buddy shoot compounds. Most of them were sat up for 20-30 yard shots for them. I had plenty of deer come by last year just out of range. A few are still a ways off the trails or pinch points I don'thunt out of them. We moved a majority of them so I could have a closer shot with my trad bows. They are starting to see the difference in my shots vs theirs. It also builds patience. My buddys shot at that doe last night was probably 35 yards. Lots of margin for error even with their bows. I keep them close and simple. Nothing over 20.
