Trying something new
All of my arrows have 5" shield cut feathers from local Turkey. My friends give me their Turkey wings and I have a chopper so I have only used this for several years now. Today; for some strange reason I came home with some store bought 2" feathers to try, what in the world has come over me??? Fletched two arrows tonight just to test drive when I get a chance.
Anyone else tried these shorties?

Re: Trying something new
yeah, I cut my turkey feathers with scissors...some 5 inches, some 3 or less. I find that at 20 yards, no big difference at all...the smaller ones are obviously faster and quieter. the flu flu ones I make are about 3 inches and are quite loud. I love the look of a classic cut 5 inch fletch so most of mine are that.
Re: Trying something new
I use 5" on wood and 4" on carbon, have tried 3", but never 2". Let me know how they work for ya.
Re: Trying something new
Sorry to revive an old thread, Tony: but did you ever try out those 2" feathers? What did you think about them? Got some Bass Pro gift cards for Christmas and I'm thinking of getting me a fletching jig and upgrading from vanes. The 2" feathers are on sale
Re: Trying something new
Yes I have, did okay at shorter yardages but not as stable. Bought a bag of 100 in red, fletched either three or four arrows out of the bag, come by on your next Ale 8 trip and you can have the rest. Didn't try them with broadheads since I wasn't satisfied with them on field points. I suggest 4" at least, I am currently using them and satisfied.
Re: Trying something new
I'm using four 3.5 in feathers right now.
Re: Trying something new
Larry gets by on half the money with his two fletched arrows. I'm seeing more of the four fletch, should work good but my cheap fletcher only does three. I haven't looked at feathers in so long that I wasn't aware that they even came in 3.5". I'm guessing they work well for you Dan?Dan wrote:I'm using four 3.5 in feathers right now.
Re: Trying something new
And that raises my next question: who uses what to apply their feathers? I'm torn between the Arizona EZ Fletch and the Bohning jig

Of course you'd pick option "C", Kirk!
