No, he made it from a piece of D-2 steel he had gotten through his work. It was cool how he did it, he sent pics of the whole process, but I was stupid enough not to save them. At the time, I didnt know he was making it for me! Lol!

OK, must have been someone on another forum. I do recall him saying he did not re-temper and it held a hell of an edge.

A guy posted in Jason's knife thread about making one out of an uncooked file, is that the one?

No, if it wasn't on this forum it was on one of my muzzle loader forums. Lots of knife making going on there as well.

Have you come up with a design yet? Love to see what you settle on. As I said before I use to make a few but was pretty pitiful at it. I was given this old sawmill bandsaw type blade that is at least 23" wide if not more. A friend of mine is Forman at a very large sawmill business. I use to draw some patterns on it and slowly cut them out with a dremel tool. Don't know anything about steel but I know I couldn't find a drill bit that would put over one hole in it! Most wouldn't effect it at all. So I would drill out a line of holes in a deer antler and glue the handle portion inside it. Here is a piece of the blade behind a gun cabinet..

Good to have lots of friends. Another one with a plasma cutter offered to cut some pieces off for me, found several still laying around. He even got fancy and cut out some wild designs, couldn't find any of those tonight.

I did however run onto an old contraption I cut out of a skilsaw blade less than 100 years ago. You can drill holes in that stuff. Don't know what I was thinking back then but this is a funny little knife with a walnut handle. Blade never polished down or finished, just laid back.

I was planning on getting some blanks like these

and going from there, but now I think I am going to save that money toward a bow and try to cut something out of an old knife or saw blade, I have always wanted small belt knife I could carry horizontal, maybe that is what I will try to do.

I really like the look of that little knife you made, it looks like it would make a great little horizontal belt knife too, and I like how the design would keep your fingers out of the blade when things get slippery.

I never saw much point in polishing a high carbon blade, I like to watch them patina anyway.
